Exercise Therapy as Key Component of Fast-Track-Surgery Approach

Objective of the Review: To provide a clinical and physiological rationale for using exercise therapy in the perioperative period as part of fast-track-surgery (FTS) programs, based on an analysis of Russian and foreign literature.

Key Points: Implementation of the FTS approach, which involves mandatory early ambulation, is a complex of medical interventions that are associated with minimal risk to the patient and the rapid achievement of functional outcomes. Еarly controlled ambulation and exercise therapy should be performed using a multidisciplinary approach.
